August Seidel was a prominent landscape painter of the Munich School. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts, he developed into a sought-after artist from the 1840s onward and exhibited successfully throughout the German-speaking world.
In the 1850s, Seidel reached the height of his artistic production. Later, his style evolved under the influence of new movements toward calmer landscapes shaped by light and atmosphere.
Today, his body of work comprises several thousand paintings, watercolors, and drawings, many of which are held in private collections.
